Healthy Picnic Ideas

Summer is here and it is time for picnics and who doesn’t love a good picnic.

Here are some tips for making your picnic a safe and healthy time for you and your family/friends.

First start with a good cooler and lots of ice.

Stay away from using Mayonnaise.

This is a great time to incorporate lots of fruits and vegetables. Cut up fresh vegetables and serve with dips, such as hummus, salsa or low-fat yogurt with herbs or a seasoning mix.

Put salad vegetables into mason jars. Add vegetables to pasta. Then add low fat dressings such as a vinaigrette.

Make wraps using whole grain tortillas with vegetables and lean meats such as chicken or turkey. Add avocado. Make lean meat sandwiches using whole grain bread. Take cheese sticks and whole grain crackers.

Crunch on sliced vegetables in place of chips.

Make fruit fun by making fruit kebobs. Slice up apples and enjoy with nut butter.

Make a candy free trail mix.

It is important to stay hydrated and water is the best way to do so. Create infused water by adding fruits such as berries, melon, lemons or limes. Choose low sugar juices.
